The Real Secret To Success

I just got back from Chicago where I was at the Glazer-Kennedy Marketing Super Conference. I was given a special VIP ticket to a private Q & A session with Kennedy and Glazer…

Dan Kennedy - Pete Mitchell - Mike Crosby - Bill Glazer
However, the single most powerful idea I got at this event was not from any singular advice aimed at me specifically.
It was Dan Kennedy’s response to the #1 question he gets asked. A question he is quick to say is the dumbest question that he gets asked. That being “What is the #1 thing that I need to do to be successful?”
I understand the stupidity of that question…
Our nature has us always looking for the silver bullet. The one thing that if we just knew to this, it would mean untold riches…
Late night infomercials sell crap based on the silver bullet theory…
Many franchise and MLM opportunities are based on the same theory that 1 strategy is the difference between wealth and poverty.
It’s all crap!
Of course it’s all crap! In your heart, you know it’s crap!
In the real world, there is no such thing as a “Law of Attraction.” Thinking ALONE will not lead to riches.
I’ve said it before, my good friend Mike Crosby is fond of stating the Law of Attraction is nothing without the Law of Action.
Of course, selling the ideas behind the law of attraction is far more profitable that telling people that they have to WORK to attain real riches.
So I understand Dan Kennedy’s frustration when people ask him the secret sauce to making it big.
In a general session, where I was feverishly taking notes, Dan went on a tirade for 10 minutes about the fallacy of the silver bullet theory, but then he said, “It there was just one secret to success, here is what it would be…”
When I heard it, I completely understood it…
We all waited on pins and needles for Mohammad to share his wisdom.
Then he gave it…
Defiance.
Defiance against every idea of “the norm.”
Defiance against every person that says you can’t make it so.
Defiance to the inner voice that says your not good enough, your not unique, your not special.
Defiant people hell bent on success, are sometimes mistaken for a narcissist because they believe the rules don’t apply to them.
Damn the rules! Damn the status quo!
The real secret to success is defiance!
I understood the message as soon as it left his lips.
All my life I grew up in a family that didn’t understand my drive and desire to break from the norms. All my life I was told that I couldn’t be a cash millionaire. I was told that I couldn’t be successful if I started my own financial services company. Even after I proved the naysayers wrong, I was told that I couldn’t make money as a marketing gun for hire…
Real success comes from those that are defiant!
I went to this conference with Mike Crosby. Mike is an example of someone who is defiant.
When we needed an extra pass to grant us access to the behind the scenes stuff, he went out and got it even though I said, ‘You won’t be able to get that.”
Ya see, to Mike, the rules don’t apply. The rules are for everybody else. The ones that won’t succeed.
Simply Defiant.
When Diamond members were allowed to get their picture with Kathy Ireland, Jamie Watts, a gold member, thus not eligible to get the picture, displayed his defiance and got around the rule that only Diamond members were allowed to get their picture taken. While I can’t tell you how he did it in this public blog post, what I can tell you is that it involved a fake cell phone call to Jamie’s 5 year old daughter (yes he pulled his 5 year old into his story) and a slight touch of misrepresentation.
Defiance.
Successful people are defiant.
They live their lives as if the rules not only don’t apply, they simply just don’t exist, because for them, they don’t…
How about you? Tell me in the comments section below.

What ya got to say??
